Brian Helman

Biography

Brian Helman designed and implemented his first production network in 1986. Over his 30+ year career he has contributed, designed, implemented and managed networks and Data Centers for Suffolk County (NY), Adelphi University (NY), Northeastern University (MA), Salem State University (MA) as well as a plethora of private clients (Network Support Specialist with IBM). From1996-2024 Brian was responsible for the design, implementation and management of the multi-campus data and video networks for Salem State University (Salem, MA), including wired/wireless networking, security, digital signage and access control.  Brian has served as EDUCAUSE Network Management CG leader since 2015, CG Wireless/NETMAN session presenter for EDUCAUSE and NERCOMP since 2012, INTEROP presenter on BYOD and frequent guest lecturer on Security and Technology in Education.  He holds a B.A (Applied Mathematics and Computer Science; Minor in Music History) from SUNY Stony Brook and an M.Ed (Secondary Mathematics) from Adelphi University.  In 2024, Brian took on the role of Chief Information Security Officer for Salem State.
