Brian recently joined the University of Alberta as Executive Program Director of the Campus Alberta Unified Services (CAUS)Program. CAUS is a Government of Alberta sponsored shared services initiative, the central objective of which is for the U of Alberta to provide ERP and related business services to post secondary institutions in Alberta.

Before this appointment Brian was the CIO at Athabasca University, where his role was to provide strategic leadership to the application of Information and communications technology (ICT) to the activities of the University. Brian became actively engaged in leading the University's eKnowledge initiatives, which included, the adoption and integration of the Moodle learning management system, the Alfresco content management system, the redesign and development of online student relationship and support services, and co-leading an ed-tech initiative to commercialize educational technologies.

Brian was also responsible for reorganizing the ICT portfolio and introduced a responsive and inclusive governance structure, project management methodologies also establishing a PMO , and implemented an ICT capital and operational costing framework.

Brian also plays an active role in the Post Secondary ICT Community, he was the Board Chair for the Association of Alberta for Higher Education Information Technology and the Alberta Post secondary Application System (APAS) CIO's Group , and is a Director the Northern Alberta Business Incubator. Brian also has published on the use of ICT in printing and education and is an active contributor to Educause forums and publications.

Brian is a PMP and holds an MA in Economics from University College Cork in Ireland and a MBA from Athabasca University.
