Biography
Chuck Thomas is a senior consultant with NCHEMS specializing in assisting colleges, universities and other non profit organizations with strategic planning for information technology. He is also President of the consortium for Higher Education Software Services (CHESS), an organization that serves as a catalyst for the development, support, and sharing of information and technology among universities and colleges. He is also the author of "Data Definitions for Colleges and Universities," available through www.nchems.org.
Mr. Thomas was the first executive director of CAUSE, the association for managing and using information resources in higher education, a position he held for fifteen years. He also spent three years as vice president of Information Associates, a national software firm. Before opening the CAUSE National Office, he was one of the four founders of NCHEMS in 1969.
He is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where his career in computing started in 1958 with ILLIAC-I. The author of many articles and two monographs on higher education computing, he is a frequent speaker at national and regional conferences. Mr. Thomas has served on the faculty of many workshops including the WACUBO Workshop in Santa Barbara, California, the NACUBO Senior Financial Officers Workshop, and the NCHEMS Management Seminars
