David Ayersman

Biography

Dr. David J. Ayersman is Vice President and Chief Information Officer for New River Community and Technical College. In this position, he oversees all aspects of information technology (including distance learning technologies) throughout a 9-county region of Southern West Virginia for all New River locations. He has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of roles within higher education, having worked at SUNY Plattsburgh, Mary Washington University, West Virginia University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and New River Community and Technical College.

Dr. Ayersman is a native West Virginian and a 1982 graduate of Fayetteville High School, a 1986 graduate of Marshall University (B.A. in Criminal Justice), a graduate of West Virginia University in 1991 (M.A) and 1994 (Ed.D.) with degrees in Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology. In 2023, he graduated from Georgetown University with a master's degree in cybersecurity risk management. He served in the West Virginia Army National Guard for five years and advanced to the rank of Sargent E-5. He also served four years in the U.S. Army and was a First Lieutenant selected for promotion to Captain.
