Dwayne Buttler
Biography
Dwayne K. Buttler serves as the first Evelyn J. Schneider Endowed Chair for Scholarly Communication at the University of Louisville and holds a faculty appointment as a Professor in University Libraries. Much of his work focuses on the complex interrelationship of copyright law, licensing, and activities at the core of the university and library mission—teaching, learning, and scholarly communication. Professor Buttler earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis and holds a BA in Telecommunications from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. He also has served as the Senior Copyright Analyst at the Copyright Management Center, IUPUI, and as the Director of Information Science at the Advanced Research & Technology Institute, Indiana University. Professor Buttler has published writings on copyright in higher education, including contributions to Copyright Essentials for Librarians and Educators, Chicago, IL: ALA Editions, 2000, 2006 (2nd Ed.), 2011 (3rd. Ed.) by Kenneth D. Crews with contributions from Dwayne K. Buttler and to Complete Copyright: An Everyday Guide for Librarians Chicago, IL: ALA Editions, 2004, by Carrie Russell. Professor Buttler teaches courses on mass communication law at the University of Louisville and leads numerous invited presentations about copyright and scholarly communication for audiences of administrators, faculty, librarians, and scholars in the library and the higher education community.EDUCAUSE Presentations
