Biography

Providing thought leadership, strategy, and practical expertise within the intersection of teaching, learning, and student success, Eric’s work is focused on how conversational technologies can provide around-the-clock support to enhance the student experience.

With a background in student affairs, academic advising, first year experience, digital identity, wellness, orientation, technology, and communications, Eric is a leading expert in how technology can be used for student engagement, recruitment, retention, and well-being.

He is a keen proponent for teaching students, staff, and faculty about digital identity development and is especially interested in the interplay between organizational culture and the adoption of new technologies for enhancing the student experience.

From 2010 to 2019, Eric ran a successful higher education consultancy and was also the Student Affairs and Technology blogger for Inside Higher Ed, where he provided insight and commentary about higher ed technology.

Eric is a former Academic Advisor and Web Coordinator for the College of Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University. He served previously as a Marketing Specialist for Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

He received an AA from Indian Hills Community College, a BA in Communications/Public Relations from the University of Northern Iowa, and an Ed.M. in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University.
