Biography
Ethan Benatan is Vice President, CIO, and Chief Strategy Officer at Marylhurst University, an adult-focused Catholic university in Portland, Oregon. He previously held positions at Reed College, Duquesne University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Brookhaven National Laboratory. He is a Fellow of the American Leadership Forum and a NITLE Fellow.
Ethan's passion for higher education is expressed through his work in strategy, organizational development, and planning for large-scale trends in technology, the academy, and the economy. He received his Ph.D. in computational biology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1999 for work in the areas of artificial intelligence and three-dimensional protein structure.
His many publications and presentations include invited sessions at EDUCAUSE, NWACC, NITLE, and AMICAL. He has served higher education IT in numerous roles including as faculty at the EDUCAUSE Institute, the 20/20 advisory panel, the ACM/SIGUCCS board, and department editor for New Horizons. He was a Fellow of the Frye Institute in 2006 and currently serves as co-leader, with Mary Parlett-Sweeney, of the Small College constituent group.
