Jeff Nugent

Biography

Jeff Nugent is Director of Learning & Applied Innovation, and Associate Director of the Center for Learning, Teaching and Research at Colgate University. In his current role at Colgate, Jeff works at the intersections of teaching, learning and technology - designing new programs and building collaborative partnerships. Prior to coming to Colgate, Jeff was Co-Director at the Center for Teaching Excellence at Virginia Commonwealth University. He has extensive experience leading faculty development initiatives including faculty learning communities, support for online course design and teaching, exploration of learning space design, and promoting learning innovation through the use of digital technologies. He completed his undergraduate studies at Binghamton University (Philosophy & Anthropology), graduate work at East Carolina University (Science Education) and postgraduate studies at the University of Virginia (Instructional Technology). He's taught educational technology related courses at the undergraduate level (Mobile Learning Scholars) and graduate level (Exploration of Digital Media for Adult Learning), and was lead instructor in a doctoral seminar in VCU's Preparing Future Faculty Program (Teaching, Learning and Technology in Higher Education). His current research interests focus on the use of web-based platforms to support connected learning, and understanding factors that shape faculty adoption of technology to support their teaching practices in face-to-face and online environments.
