Biography
Jill Gemmill is Executive Director of Cyberinfrastructure Technology Integration; Deputy Director of the Clemson University Cyberinstitute; and Research Assistant Professor in the School of Computing and also Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University. Jill leads an organization of applied research scientists who, serving as a bridge between domain expert faculty and enterprise information technology experts, collaboratively design integrated cybersolutions for a variety of research and scholarly multidisciplinary projects. Jill earned a Ph.D in Computer and Information Sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and also earned Masters degrees in Computer Science and in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Jill's expertise includes trust relationship management frameworks for federated virtual organizations, three-dimensional computer graphics,real-time programming and data analysis. Her past experience includes university Data Security Officer, network applications specialist, and Technical Director for a Neuroscience Image Reconstruction Facility.
She has published 29 articles and 2 technical books; is cited for technical contributions in 16 publications; has given 40 invited talks; and obtained more than $18 million dollars in research funding. Dr. Gemmill has been recognized with the Data Center Executive of the Year (DACEY) Award 2008 for Campus IT Infrastructure Re-Engineering; ESRI Special Achievement in GIS Award, June 2003 for the Woodlawn Housing Initiative Web Site, a proving ground for new concepts in community development; and E-Gov âÂÂBest of the Bestâ Pioneer Award 2002 for the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Interoperability Project.
Her diverse experience and leadership have been invaluable in developing collaborative environments for Virtual Organizations in domains including Social Science, Health Sciences, Computational Science, Bioinformatics, and Ecology. Her work has received funding from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, National Library of Medicine, Southeastern Universities' Research Association, and the UAB Health Services Foundation. She is co-developer of the myVocs collaboration environment for Virtual Organizations.
