Biography

John Rome (John.Rome@asu.edu) is Deputy CIO and 20+ year employee of Arizona State University(ASU). He started his career at ASU in the Information Technology Department and has worked under or closely with a variety of departments including: Institutional Research, the President's Office, Data Administration, Budget Department and the Provost Office. Six years ago he moved back to Information Technology, reporting to the CIO. Until his move to the Deputy CIO role, he oversaw ASU's application development, ERP systems (Peoplesoft) and Business Intelligence(BI). John is a pioneer of Data Warehousing in Higher Education, building ASU's 1st data warehouse around 1995. Since that time, he has coached Higher Ed institutions and industry on how to build data warehouses, best practices and the strategic importance of BI. He has focused the last 5 years on dashboards/design/academic analytics and most recently, big data. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clarke University (Iowa) and a MBA from Arizona State University.
