Joshua Kim

Biography

Dr. Joshua Kim is the Director of Online Programs and Strategy at Dartmouth College, and a Senior Fellow for Academic Transformation, Learning, and Design at the Center for New Designs in Learning & Scholarship (CNDLS) at Georgetown University.

Josh has a PhD in sociology and demography from Brown University.  He started his career on the faculty at West Virginia University, helped start Britannica.com’s education division in San Francisco, and was one of the original founders of Quinnipiac University Online. He has taught both on-ground and online courses in sociology, marketing, and higher education leadership.

With Eddie Maloney, Josh published Learning Innovation and the Future of Higher Education and The Low-Density University: 15 Scenarios for Higher Education. Both books are from Johns Hopkins University Press, and both came out in 2020.

Josh is best known for his daily Learning Innovation blog on InsideHigherEd.com, a website that receives over 3.6 million unique monthly visitors.

Josh and his wife Julie, a pediatric oncologist at Dartmouth, live in Hanover with their (now college-going) daughters.
