Julie Evans is the CEO of the national education nonprofit organization, Project Tomorrow (www.tomorrow.org) whose mission is to ensure that today's students are well prepared to become tomorrow's leaders, innovators and engaged citizens of the world. Under her leadership, Project Tomorrow has emerged as a national leader promoting the use of innovative and research based science, math and technology resources in our K-12 schools to develop critical thinking, problem solving and creativity skills in students. Noteworthy recent organizational accomplishments include the expansion of Project Tomorrow's nationally recognized YouthTEACH2Learn Program to increase the teacher pipeline and help students prepare for jobs and careers of the 21st century, the development of a Youth Leadership Summit for Math and Science model to build community collaborations around STEM education, a partnership with the NSF-funded National Science Digital Library and grant award to study the digital readiness of middle school science and math teachers, and the extension of the heralded Speak Up National Research Project to include over 2.2 million students, parents and educators. Since 2003 the Speak Up data findings have annually impacted federal, state and local policies, programs and funding on education and technology and has fueled a national movement on the importance of including stakeholder views in education planning & decisions.
Prior to joining the organization in 1999, Ms. Evans enjoyed a successful 17-year career in the technology for-profit sector. Her career includes 12 years in regional sales and marketing management with Unisys and as an executive with two high tech startup companies in the educational technology arena. Ms. Evans is a graduate of Brown University.
The Leader-to-Leader Institute (formerly known as the Drucker Foundation) selected Ms. Evans for participation in their highly regarded Frances Hesselbein Community Innovation Fellows Program in 2003. Ms. Evans serves on the Board of Directors of Project Tomorrow, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the Childrens' First Advisory Council, and the TechAmerica Foundation. In April 2008, Ms. Evans was named by eSchool News as one of the ten most influential people in education technology over the past 10 years. Ms. Evans has served on the Project Advisory Boards for the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Horizon Report for Higher Education and the 2009 K-12 Horizon Report. She is a frequent presenter at national K-12 and higher education conferences and contributor to both print and online media on children, education, science and technology issues.
