Biography

Karen joined EDUCAUSE as Program Manager in March 2011. In summer 2013, she transitioned to working under the EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR), where she is responsible for day-to-day oversight and management of the ECAR Working Groups (formerly Advanced Core Technologies Initiative - ACTI). As program manager, she is a primary liaison for EDUCAUSE members and community for the programs she works with, and she collaborates with members and EDUCAUSE colleagues to ensure that current issues, emerging trends, and opportunities of special interest are identified, supported, and communicated. Previously, she led the ACTI working groups as well as worked with the EDUCAUSE Washington Office, where she supported the Network Council, the EDUCAUSE Campus Policy program, and the former EDUCAUSE Policy office by serving as managing editor of the e-newsletter Policy Digest, website support, and more.

Karen came to EDUCAUSE with a strong background in project management and working with higher education. Previously, Karen served as Standards Program Manager for the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), where she participated in leadership committee and working group meetings to help develop work priorities, workflows, schedules, and benchmarks; developed and organized outreach and education programs; developed organizational procedures and policies; and oversaw standards development work and reporting. As Distance Education Librarian at The George Washington University, she developed and directed a library services program for the university's distance education community. Previously, she worked with the Association of Research Libraries, where she managed the association's distance learning initiative. Karen holds a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles, an MA from Boston College, and an MLS from the Catholic University of America.
