Biography

As part of the senior leadership team at OSUL, Karla Strieb is responsible for collection development processes; acquisition and description of content, including special collections materials; preservation services; and collection access and storage, including circulation, e-reserves and interlibrary services. Strieb (formerly Karla Hahn) joined the Libraries in April 2011 coming from the Association of Research Libraries where she was responsible for the development of ARL’s Transforming Research Libraries strategic direction, which focuses on new and expanding roles for ARL libraries. Strieb joined ARL in 2005 when she assumed leadership of ARL’s Office of Scholarly Communication. She shifted her programmatic leadership to transforming research library roles in April 2009.

Prior to joining the ARL staff, Strieb was the Collection Management Team Leader for the University of Maryland Libraries. She worked previously at the Welch Medical Library, Johns Hopkins University, and at the University of Michigan Libraries.

Strieb has a Ph.D from the University of Maryland College of Information Studies, an M.L.S. from Syracuse University, an M.S. from the University of Chicago, and a B.S. from Wittenberg University. Her writings include the book, Electronic Ecology: A Case Study of Electronic Journals in Context and numerous articles on issues relating to digital communication and library services.
