Biography
Lisa has been with EDUCAUSE since 2002. Previously the association's Director of Marketing Communications, she now holds the position of Market Manager with a focus on member CIOs; the new Data, Research, and Analytics programs (including EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR) and the Core Data Service (CDS); the Policy Program (including the Cybersecurity Initiative), and the Advanced Core Technologies Initiative (ACTI). Lisa collaborates with members and EDUCAUSE colleagues to ensure that the association understands the evolving role and needs of the higher education CIO and offers products, programs, and services to meet those needs. She assists Theresa Rowe, CIO at Oakland University, with the CIO discussion list and coordinates offerings for CIOs at the EDUCAUSE annual and regional conferences. She leads the team that manages marketing and development of the "CIO and Senior IT Leader Experience" at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference, as well as marketing of the Enterprise and Information Technology Leadership Conference. Lisa's role is to elevate the concerns and questions of member CIOs to association leadership, and she encourages members to contact her directly at lgesner@educause.edu to share feedback and ideas.
Lisa participated in the 2007 EDUCAUSE Institute Management Program and recommends the program to all aspiring managers in higher education. Prior to joining EDUCAUSE, she worked in the book industry for more than 10 years, with stints in marketing, publishing, editing, and bookselling on national and local levels. As Senior Marketing Manager for netLibrary (now a division of EBSCO), Lisa was involved with the introduction of e-books into academic and public libraries. She attended Wheaton College in Norton, MA, and graduated with a BA in English and summa cum laude College Honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she was named the Outstanding Graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences, the winner of the Jacob Van Ek Award, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa's University of Colorado chapter.
