Biography
Lisa Stephens serves as Senior Strategist for Academic Innovation in the SUNY Office of the Provost. A member of the Academic Technology and Instructional Support organization, she manages the Innovative Instruction Technology Grant (IITG) program, a system wide initiative designed to build bridges and share instructional innovation, in part by leveraging the SUNY Learning Commons. She also serves on the Chancellors Online Education Advisory Team to develop a strategic approach for student access to Open SUNY.
Prior to a shared release agreement with SUNY System Administration, Lisa chaired the SUNY Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching & Technology (FACT2) and was a member of the IT Policy & Communications team at the University at Buffalo, responsible for strategic and operational communications for the Office of the Chief Information Officer. She remains a member of the UB Faculty Senate Teaching & Learning subcommittee and Middle States re-accreditation team, as well as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the UB Department of Communication.
Lisa's research has focused on administrative choice of technology adoption, with recent publications in EDUCAUSE Quarterly (Oct. 2011), the Encyclopedia of Distance and Online Learning (2nd Ed.), the College and University Media Review, as well as various presentations and research reports. She is past chair of the UBlearns Faculty Advisory Committee, and co-chaired the Teaching, Learning & Technology Task Group that made master planning recommendations for learning space and facilities renovations. For several years, she led the UB Distance Education and Videoconference Operations unit.
Lisa holds a PhD in Higher Education Administration (University at Buffalo), an MS in Television, Radio and Film (S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications - Syracuse University) and a BFA in Communication Design (Rochester Institute of Technology). She is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in Creative Studies focusing on facilitation, problem solving and leadership. Lisa has served on several boards, including the Consortia of Colleges and University Media Centers, and Literacy Volunteers of Niagara. She is an avid sailor and Past Commodore of the Wilson Yacht Club located on Lake Ontario.
