Biography

Dr. Marwin Britto is currently serving as the Executive Director of Lone Star College-Online at Lone Star College System in Houston, Texas. With 90,000 students enrolled, Lone Star College System is one of the largest college systems and in 2012 was named the fastest growing higher education institution in the United States. Offering 32 programs completely online, Lone Star College-Online supports more than 32,000 online students and 1,000 online faculty participating in almost 2,000 online courses each semester. Under Dr. Britto's leadership, Lone Star College-Online received the prestigious 2012 Sloan-Consortium Effective Practice Award for Comprehensive Online Student Services (see press release: http://tiny.cc/iv9ljw). In addition, Lone Star College-Online won the 2013 Instructional Technology Council Award for Excellence in eLearning for its Outstanding Student Services (see press release: http://tiny.cc/8xb0ow). Furthermore, Lone Star College-Online is currently a 2013 Finalist for the IMS Global Learning Consortium, Inc. Learning Impact Award. The decision on the winner will be made in May 2013.

Dr. Britto has served in a number of positions in higher education as an administrator and faculty member. He has had 10 years of university experience as a full-time faculty member. His online, face-to-face and blended teaching experiences span K-12, ESL in Canada and Japan, community college, and university undergraduate and graduate levels. His administrative experiences in higher education include positions as Director of the Educational Technology Center, Director of Instructional Technology, Chief Information Officer and University Librarian. Dr. Britto has completed more than 125 refereed conference presentations and 45+ peer-reviewed papers in academic journals and conference proceedings in the areas of distance education/online learning, teaching and learning, teacher education, instructional technology, library science and change management. He holds four graduate degrees including a Masters in Education (specializing in Educational Technology), a Masters in Business Administration, an ALA-accredited Masters in Library and Information Science and a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology.
