Biography

Michael Atkisson is an award-winning instructional and product designer with 11 years experience designing learning environments and materials for online-, face-to-face-, and blended-learning deliveries. At DropThought, he heads the company's higher education business and product, formative feedback tool for student reflections on learning. As an instructional designer at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Michael transformed MOOCs to be experiential, action-based, and intimate. As a Ph.D. candidate in BYU's Instructional Psychology and Technology program and a researcher in Learning Analytics with the Stanford Lytics Lab, Michael is comparing formative student feedback on assignments over time with end of course surveys. In his five years at Allen Communication Learning Services, his custom, corporate training and software designs won recognition and praise from Fortune 500 clients, including CVS, Brunswick, Sara Lee, Nestle-Purina, Colgate Palmolive, Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley, Lockheed Martin, Rockwell Collins, Boeing, Intuit, Farmers Insurance, Genentech-Roche, Pfizer, Exxon-Mobil, Masimo, and Usana, all while meeting aggressive budgets and deadlines. Michael enjoys time with his wife and three children at home in the Bay Area and occasionally finds time to write a song on the guitar.
