Pablo Burrows

Biography

With nearly 30 years experience in media design and production, Paul Burrows is the Manager of the New Media Integration Group for KUED Media Solutions, Office of Information Technology, University of Utah. He has a Master of Science degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in educational communications, learning theory and visual perception. Mr. Burrows consults and contracts with University faculty and related departments and organizations in the use and application of new media technologies in educational systems and instructional designs. This process involves investigating and researching the capabilities, practicalities, applications and costs of new technologies. The first third of his career was that of a video producer/director. His experience with interactive media began with the introduction of laser videodiscs in the early 1980s and continued through the design and production of numerous videodisc-based projects, including the Slice of Life visual encyclopedia of over 44,000 images related to health sciences education and training. He has been involved in several projects that wed metadata indexing techniques with digital media distribution over the internet and via CD-ROM and DVDs. Mr. Burrows has taught numerous workshops about digital media design, conversion, production and distribution locally, nationally, and abroad. He has produced and consulted with dozens of digital media projects in the sciences, humanities, education, arts, and social sciences. Most recently, Mr. Burrows has been implementing and populating an enterprise-wide digital asset management system for the Utah Education that delivers digital learning objects to schools throughout the state. As well, he developed a comprehensive metadata scheme for the DAM system, and has also been instrumental in the development of the PBCore, a metadata dictionary for public broadcasting content producers.
