Dr. Rita Barrantes is the Manager of IT Services and the Assoc. to CIO at the University of Houston IT department (UIT) Office of the CIO. She has worked at UH since 2013 in multiple IT positions and currently she manages the Colleges/Divisions technology review program, a strategic service that promotes shared services and best practices across the University.

Dr. Barrantes has 20+ years of experience in the IT industry. She co-leads the Educause ITIL Constituent Group and is a member of the PMI Project Management Region 6 Best Practices committee (TX, AR, CO, LA, MS, MO, OK, and KS).

Dr. Barrantes is an adjunct faculty at UH and a frequent speaker on topics related to project management, IT leadership, ITIL, and IT service management. She holds a PhD in Information Technology, an MBA with emphasis in IT, and a B.S. in systems/software engineering. She is a certified Meru Wireless engineer, a certified project management professional (PMP®), and a certified ITIL practitioner.
