Biography
R. J. Clougherty, Jr. is Acting Vice Provost for Research, Innovation, and open Education. He has been at Empire State College since May 2007 when he was appointed Dean of the School for Graduate Studies. Previously, he was the Founding Director of the Institute for Technological Scholarship and the Director of the Tennessee Advanced Computing Technologies Institute, both at Tennessee Tech University, where he also founded and directed the Web Design program. He was a tenured full professor in the English department where he spent seven years directing the graduate programs.
As a scholar, Dr. Clougherty was a Fulbright Hayes Senior Scholar to the University of Uppsala in 1997, and his work, both his academic writing as well as his poetry, has been translated into multiple languages. He has also published in many disciplines including literature, engineering, chemistry, web design, and online learning. His current area of research is in Open Education.
