Sandy Schaeffer is currently the Director of the Advanced Learning Center at the University of Memphis where he provides leadership for campus-wide instructional technology support and strategy. He has been directing that center since 2002 when he joined the university. Prior to coming to the university Dr. Schaeffer had over 30 years of professional Information Technology experience across multiple industries, applications, and technologies including 7 years with the IBM Corporation. Recent industry efforts have included founder and CTO of Memphis-based ThoughtWare Technologies, an e-learning and workforce development software company.

He completed a Masters Degree in Mathematics/Computer Science at the University of Memphis in 1982. He also earned a BS in Biology from Rhodes College (formerly Southwestern at Memphis) in 1978. In 2010, he completed an EdD in Higher and Adult Education through the University of Memphis.

His current research interests include: (1) the study of factors that engage faculty in the development of new instructional skills and (2) higher education economics and the opportunity to realize institutional efficiency and quality improvement through information technology.
