Biography
Sharon P. Pitt is interim deputy CIO and interim executive director of the Technology Systems Division at George Mason University. As Deputy CIO, Sharon provides oversight for central IT's capital planning, strategic planning, finance and procurement activities. As executive director of TSD, Sharon provides central IT infrastructure and services, including administrative systems and information management, networking, telecommunications, data centers, and customer service and support.
Sharon also is executive director of 4VA (http://www.4-va.org), a consortium of Virginia institutions seeking to decrease instructional costs, expand educational opportunities for Virginians, increase research competitiveness and expand Virginia's STEM activities.
Sharon serves as Mason's representative to the Southeastern Universities Research Association's (SURA) IT Committee, the IBM Cloud Academy and the board of MARIA (Mid-Atlantic Research Infrastructure Alliance). She has served as chair of the Electronic Campus of Virginia and the Learning Technology Advisory Council to the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV). She was an advisory board member of the Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program (CGEP) in Virginia. In addition, she founded Virginia's annual software licensing(VSS)summits.
Before taking on her current roles, Sharon was executive director of the Division of Instructional Technology at George Mason University. Sharon has been associate vice provost for Learning Technologies at North Carolina State University and Director of Instructional Technology and Distance Education at James Madison University. While in North Carolina, Sharon co-chaired the development of NC State's quality enhancement plan for reaffirmation of accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and served as board chair of the Teaching and Learning Technology Collaborative of the University of North Carolina system.
In 2004, Sharon was a Fellow of the Frye Leadership Institute.
