Biography

As the Director of Information Security/Special Initiatives at Duquesne University, Tom is developing and overseeing a comprehensive, unified information (cyber) security program for Duquesne University that includes detection, prevention, incident response, and cyber security awareness. He is also responsible for Identity and Access Management and Data Governance.

Prior to joining Duquesne University Tom spent over 11 years at Carnegie Mellon University where he held a variety of leadership positions including the oversight of areas such as technology enhanced spaces, media services, desktop support, help desk, project and portfolio management, education, and service management.

Tom currently serves as co-chair of the Educause ECAR Cloud Computing Working Group. Tom is also an active member of Internet2 Cloud Services Working Group(CSWG) and also the ECAR Cloud Total Cost of Ownership(TCO) Working Group. Tom served several years as the co-lead of the Educause Cloud Computing Constituent Group. He has also been serving for the last 5 years on the Greater Pittsburgh CIO and Executive IT Summit Advisory Board. Tom is an alumnus of the 2009 Leading Change/Frye Leadership Institute and the 2006 Educause Institute Leadership Program. Tom has served on the 2011 Educause Mid Atlantic Conference Committee as the Leadership and Strategic Thinking Track Lead, and a member of the Educause EDUComment Task Force.

Tom completed a Master's of Science in Communications and Information Systems from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He also hold s Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Robert Morris University with dual-majors in Accounting and Management Information System.
