This session will describe the journey the quickly-growing CSUS IT department embarked on to bring the runaway IT product portfolio under control. Over a period of two years the entire portfolio was reassessed based on need and use. The IT department reviewed and reworked contracts, dropped unnecessary licenses, engaged with vendors to renegotiate terms and conditions, and consolidated information. The effort yielded solid costs savings to the department and a better understanding of what products are in place at our institutions. Although this task can seem daunting, with an overall strategy and simple tactics it can be brought under control.
