Computer Information Systems Instructor

Terms of Employment

100 percent, 180 days academic year assignment

May include teaching evening and weekend courses and the use of non-traditional delivery methodologies; e.g. telecourses, and on-line courses. Duty days may fluctuate from the traditional September-June schedule. Recently hired faculty will be required to participate in a new faculty orientation program as well as designated training for online and hybrid courses.

Salary and Benefits
2007/2008 Salary Range $38,378 to $66,994/yr. Salary placement is subject to contract negotiations. Newly hired faculty normally begin at Step 3 ($40,789/yr) depending on education and experience.
The college also provides an excellent benefits package, which includes medical, dental, and vision coverage (subject to employee and college collective bargaining agreements). Benefits also include: life, and disability insurance and membership in the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) or Oregon Public Services Retirement Plan (OPSRP).
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with 24 graduate hours in computer science or information systems. Two years of training or teaching experience with content emphasis on IC3 computer literacy skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Information Systems. Recent coursework in computer science. Teaching Computer Information Systems topics for two or more years at the community college level or higher. Experience teaching online and/or hybrid courses to adult learners. Current industry experience in at least three of the following areas preferred: MS Windows, Microsoft Office 2007, security, networking, database administration, PC hardware, and professional and/or industry certifications in MS MCSE; Oracle, Novell CNE; CompTIA A+, N+, S+, and/or Linux is desired. Experience in curriculum development and a demonstrated ability or desire to work with culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse students and communities.

Essential Functions

Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates a sensitivity to diversity into the workplace
Actively participates in the retention and recruitment of students
Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data gathering tools and integrates technology into curriculum and classroom presentations
Instructs a variety of computer science classes, including but not limited to, introductory overview courses, software applications, programming, and Operating systems
Revises and updates courses and instructional materials; develops new courses as necessary
Maintains student records
Participates in curriculum development and improvement
Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment
Maintains technical skills current with industry
Advises students in academic program requirements
Confers with other staff members and assists in the successful operation of the department
Participates as an active and effective member of the college
Works with advisory and college committees as assigned
Functions as a life-long learner
Applies the College’s values for teaching and learning:

Encourages creative and critical thinking
Actively engages students in the learning process
Facilitates learning that applies to and enriches a student’s life
