Get in step with an academic leader

Bentley is setting an impressive pace as a national leader in business education. The backdrop for success is a campus community that values the collective strength and diversity of its members. We seek faculty and staff who represent different backgrounds, interests and talents – and share a commitment to high ethical standards and a willingness to embrace challenge. A supportive, team-oriented work environment promotes personal development and professional accomplishment.

Manager of Reference Services

The Bentley Library completed a highly successful $17M renovation in 2006, resulting in a 470% increase in gate count. It also migrated from Sirsi to Innovative's ILS last year, which enabled a host of improvements in its OPAC. After conducting significant usability testing with patrons, it launched a new website this past year (library.bentley.edu), which serves as a gateway to its 80 databases and 30,000 full-text online journals. After more than 20 years, the current Manager of Reference has decided to downshift her career and assume a part-time reference librarian role, providing the opportunity for a new Manager to continue the highly innovative trajectory of the Bentley Library. Duties include: manage an energetic, service-oriented team of reference librarians as well as to function as a reference librarian. Managerial duties will include overseeing the reference department librarians, a $1.65M materials budget, and services. The Bentley library provides exemplary service in reference assistance, bibliographic instruction, reference desk support, and material development to support the informational needs of the community, departmental liaison support, and knowledge of/training on electronic and print resources. As reference librarian, duties will include (contribution may be less than that of other reference librarians in some areas in order to provide ample time for oversight and management) providing general/specialized reference assistance to faculty, students, and staff; participating in an active bibliographic instruction program that supports the undergraduate arts & sciences and business curriculum; and developing research guides and other (mostly online) materials to support the informational needs of the Bentley community. He/she will serve as a departmental liaison to specific academic departments and academic initiatives to develop electronic and physical collections that support the research and curricular needs of faculty. This position is pivotal in the integration of library services into Bentley's instructional and research missions, and in supporting its B.S., B.A., M.S., M.B.A., and Ph.D. students and programs.

A Masters degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program. A minimum of three years reference and instruction experience, preferably in an academic setting. Preferably, at least some if not the majority of experience will be in a business school setting and include 1-3 years of management or supervisory responsibility.
