Description:

TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS ENGINEER (Information Technology Specialist II) (#00346D) Division of Information Technology/Network Services.
Reports to the Network Engineering Team Lead and collaborates with two other Network Engineers to provide a reliable and secure network infrastructure for the RU campus. Provides leadership and coordination in the design, testing, installation, operation and documentation of wired and wireless data networking systems hardware and software. Assists in the configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, firewalls, VPN’s, VoIP equipment, Internet connectivity and bandwidth management devices.

QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP communications, routing protocols (RIP, EIGRP, BGP), network security principles, firewalls, VPNs, VoIP and quality of service. Considerable knowledge of Cisco IOS operations system and Cisco VoIP technologies. Knowledge of Cisco Clean Access, PIX firewalls, and Cisco access control lists preferred. Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems preferred. Demonstrated ability to evaluate, design, test, implement and troubleshoot data networking hardware and software in a complex multi-campus data/voice/video network. Ability to configure and utilize diagnostic tools to analyze, identify and resolve telecommunication problems. Demonstrated ability to think logically and solve problems in a fast-paced team environment; communicate technical issues effectively both orally and in writing; and design and manage technology projects. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field preferred. Cisco CCNA and/or CCVP certification desirable.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience (Pay Band 5). Position is open until filled with review of applications beginning on July 28, 2008.
