Description:

General Function:
Responsible for the daily maintenance of telecommunications wiring and equipment on a campus-wide basis. Assists in the installation and operation of campus telecommunications, and trains users in the day-to-day operation. Conducts moves, adds and changes on Nortel Option 81C.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
* Operates and adjusts a wide variety of telecommunications equipment, including PBX; records data and prepares activity reports as required; supervises routine maintenance on telecommunications equipment; maintains inventory of telecommunications equipment and associated telephone lines, trunks, and circuits; extracts and processes data from prescribed sources; modifies or rearranges equipment as necessary; documents and reports problems to initiate corrective action; maintains liaison with vendors and other departments.

* Diagnoses, services, repairs, and maintains telecommunications software, hardware and related equipment including printed circuit boards, station sets, digital equipment, printers, key sets and single line sets; performs adds, moves, and changes of telecommunication equipment as instructed; updates computerized databases and paper documentation associated with performed work.

* Develops, maintains and implements a disaster recovery plan to ensure business continuity.

* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships:
Direction Received: Reports to the User Support Services Director

Minimum Requirements:
Three or more years of experience in supporting telecommunications systems; strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and reliably to ensure activities are completed to customer satisfaction.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
* Knowledge of standard communications color codes; standard telecommunications wiring practices, digital voice technology; I/O interfaces; telecommunications terminology, methods and practices; current telecommunications service practices and standards.

* Ability use telecommunications test equipment; assist in wiring and cabling installation in existing structures.

* Ability to perform PBX and key system telephone adds, moves, and changes; maintain and update cable plant records; read wiring diagrams and programming manuals; diagnose equipment malfunctions; oversee vendors working on telecommunications equipment; establish cooperative relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
