The Director of Admissions and Matriculation is key tool in operating philosophies embodied by The Institution are: rigorous compliance, student accessibility to education, exceptional customer service and continuous improvement of the student experience. The Director of Admission and Matriculation is a member of the Registrar’s Department and manages the organization, evaluation, management, supervision, and administration of the Office of Admission and Matriculation. Responsible for departmental leadership, administrative direction, and translation of policy into operational structure to ensure efficient and effective admission and matriculation of students. Works closely with the Enrollment Department, and has direct responsibility for the admission qualification process, completion of student admission files, transfer credit evaluation and application to degree audit, and full admission/matriculation of applicants and students. Responsible for quality assurance and on-going internal review of transfer credit evaluation processing. Hires, supervises and evaluates admission and matriculation team for a learner-centered university with a growing online student population. Currently supervises a department of over 50 employees in three geographic locations to provide services for non-traditional learners. * Establishes the strategic plan for the department and ensures the resources, processes and procedures are in place to ensure its success in conjunction with university-wide strategic planning and assessment. This includes setting measurable, deliverable, reportable goals and objectives for the department, teams and individual staff members. * Organizes and administers the admission, transfer, matriculation functions, in order to provide maximum service to students while ensuring efficient and effective workflow. * Oversees the implementation, monitoring and development of procedures in compliance with university policies and regulations applicable to the higher education environment. Responsible for ensuring measurable efficiency, controls and risk management with regard to admission and matriculation of students. Initiates analysis and evaluation of University procedures with a view toward recommending alternatives and improvements. * Responsible for departmental compliance with the Federal Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) as it pertains to applicant and student records, including oversight for the maintenance and integrity of student data, and monitoring of records security and access. * Initiates the development and implementation of advanced technological applications and web based interfaces for improved services, including but not limited to student information systems and workflow management for document imaging, new student admission, enrollment, matriculation, articulation and transfer credit evaluation and database, course inventory, degree audit. * May represent Ashford University and/or the Office of the Registrar at state and national meetings, conferences, and programs. * Leadership, participation, guidance and information on University wide academic and operational committees is expected. * Develops and administer the departmental budget * Problem solves through research, analysis and resolution of student disputes as they relate to admission and matriculation. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: * The successful candidate will possess an advanced degree and have a substantial record of professional accomplishment as an academic administrator in a college or university. * Masters degree in student services, educational administration or a related area preferred. * 5+ years or progressively advanced experience in a related area of post-secondary education environment. * Experience implementing and maintaining policies and procedures in accordance with industry best practices, regulatory and compliance issues related to the Registrar’s Office, including but not limited to Title IV, accreditation, and licensure. * Demonstrated evidence of strong leadership, interpersonal, supervision and management skills. * Knowledge of integrated student information systems and operational computer systems designs, techniques, and applications; including web-based services for online learners and document imaging for paperless student records. * Thorough knowledge of higher education administration subject matter to act as a resource for the exploration of new ideas. Skill in creating a supportive work environment where new ideas are solicited, evaluated, and implemented. * Knowledge and practical experience in the development and implementation of individual and departmental performance measures and cost benefit analysis. * A proven record of working successfully with diverse populations * Demonstrated strong analytical skills to research and analyze data and information from a variety of sources to make sound recommendations and decisions. * A positive attitude and ability to adapt to, initiate and encourage positive change, including the ability to work effectively in a strong service environment that is subject to constantly changing priorities. * Ability to work effectively with all levels within the University and develop informal, cooperative relationships among diverse, multifunctional departments; anticipate students' needs, expectations, and requirements. Ability to initiate appropriate actions and make systematic changes to avoid problem situations and/or increase the probability of desired outcomes. * Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including skill in making oral and written presentations through various media formats to colleagues or subordinates to provide information, instructions, or explain subjects of importance. * Knowledge of the faculty governance process and skill to work effectively with faculty and academic administration. * Ability to set priorities and meet aggressive commitments to achieve objectives; manage multiple, diverse assignments/projects. * Experience working in an online/distance-learning environment is preferred.
