Electronic coaching, delivered through computer-tailored communication, has been widely adopted in the public health community. It has been used to help millions of people quit smoking, control their diabetes, and make difficult treatment decisions. The Center for Health Communications Research at the University of Michigan has built the open-source Michigan Tailoring System to support electronic coaching. We will report progress on the first education application of these tools to students in large introductory physics courses. Historical performance data on more than 50,000 students has supported the design and testing of this e-coaching system.
