Portals - 24 Resources

Overview

Portals are large aggregative Internet technologies that are increasingly replacing home pages to provide a structured gateway to the Internet. They integrate content, community, and communication services according to users' needs by means of personalization and/ or customization. These features of integration of multiple services, personalization and/ or customization distinguish portals from owner-centered home pages. Portals thus are not trap doors to a single Web site, but rather a gateway to a marketspace of multiple services. Large Portals tend to command large parts of Web traffic; AOL and Yahoo!, for example, each reach roughly 50% of all Web users every month.
