Conference Schedule

For travel planning purposes, preconference activities begin on Tuesday, October 18, with the preconference seminars (NOTE: all preconference seminars require separate payment and registration). The first full conference activity is the opening of the exhibit hall on Tuesday. The main conference opens Wednesday, October 19, at 8:00 a.m. with the general session featuring Scott McNealy, chairman and CEO of Sun Microsystems. The conference will close Friday, October 21, with the general session panel "Right and Wrong in Cyberspace," which will end at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The best way to plan your conference schedule is to use our Itinerary Builder, which allows you to chart, save, update, download and print your conference schedule before you head to Orlando. Used in conjunction with the Knowledge Pathfinder, the Itinerary Builder gives you the opportunity to explore all the conference sessions, workshops, and exhibits, and pinpoint topics related to your specific interests and needs.

NearSpace Meeting Manager

PDAYou will be able to beam conference information (including the program schedule, an exhibitor list, and exhibit hall and Orlando maps) to your PDA, Smartphone, or laptop from beaming stations located near the e-mail kiosks on the first floor lobby of the Convention Center.

Conference Components

Track Sessions

The EDUCAUSE 2005 Program Committee designed the conference program based on six principal areas. All track sessions were chosen from the call for proposals process and provide the foundation for the annual conference.

Poster Sessions

Informal, drop-in poster sessions will be held Wednesday and Thursday, 4:55–6:10 p.m., allowing conferees to share campus experiences with colleagues on a one-to-one basis. This is your chance to learn exactly what you need to know about interesting initiatives.

Corporate Presentations

Professional presentations address technological issues and solutions pertaining to higher education. Prepared and delivered by representatives from corporations and/or institutions, these sessions may include demonstrations of new technology.

Corporate Workshops

Gain hands-on experience with potential technology solutions for your institution. These workshops, presented by leading companies in higher education, will provide you with a better understanding of their technological capabilities.

Constituent Group Meetings

More than 30 open, informal meetings allow Constituent Group subscribers and any other professionals to meet face-to-face to discuss topics of mutual interest. These groups are scheduled to meet at various times on Wednesday and Thursday. The associated open-subscription, online discussion lists allow participants to continue their conversations after the conference.

Current Issues Roundtables

Moderated, colleague-to-colleague roundtable discussion sessions will focus on topical campus issues and challenges related to information resources and technology. They will be held Wednesday and Thursday, 4:55–6:10 p.m. Attendance will be limited.

Organizational Update Sessions

Representatives of EDUCAUSE and collaborating organizations will describe their strategic directions and priorities, major issues, and initiatives. These sessions, which will allow time for questions and comments, are excellent forums for learning more about the organization and key staff members.

Meetings

All EDUCAUSE standing member advisory committees (both current and incoming members) meet in conjunction with the conference. Many other organizations with similar interests and participants also hold ancillary meetings during this event.

Award Presentations

Recipients of the 2005 EDUCAUSE awards will be honored at the general session on Thursday morning, and all award winners will describe their work in Thursday's track and poster sessions.

Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions

Impromptu BOFS allow small groups to talk about areas of particular professional interest over lunch on Wednesday and Thursday. Institutional representatives may schedule on-site meetings using the BOF bulletin board near the conference registration desk. Table signs will direct participants to designated areas in the conference lunch room.
