Lewis WatkinsLewis WatkinsBiographyLewis Watkins is Chief Information Security Officer for The University of Texas System. He is responsible for providing leadership and direction for and implementation of an information security action plan that encompases the system's nine academic and six health institutions. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Director of Information Resources for the University of Texas System Administration. As such he was responsible for the operational aspects of information technology within the organization including user and network support, records and document management, systems development, and IT security. Prior to joining the U.T. System Administration, Mr. Watkins was Manager of Data Processing for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas with oversight responsibility for all IT operations and applications development. Prior to this he held a number of positions at the U. T. Austin campus. He has extensive experience in the development of large applications including library automation, student registration, insurance enrollment, annuity payroll, and investments. Mr. Watkins holds a B.S. of Ed. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and a M.Ed. from the University of Alaska. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
