Grace Denman: UMUC has position descriptions and a career path. gdenman@umuc.edu Katie Ranes - ASU: Arizona State is in the process of defining career path. Have job description for Project Manager and Sr Project Manager Les@UManitoba: yes.. I have 4 levels of positions defined in my office (UManitoba) Les.Howard@ad.umanitoba.ca Dan @ Marquette Univ: Whoever will be collecting this information will you be willing to share the results with the group? Mark @ Penn State: Yes. IT Project Manager job profile: http://ohr.psu.edu/assets/recruitment-and-compensation/job-profiles/ITProjectManager.pdf Sherri Yerk-Zwickl @ Lehigh: Will do! Dan @ Marquette Univ: We have a PM position description but many offices hire project managers/coordinators. Some are more rigorous than others. I would like the term Project Manager to be applied in a more defined manner across the university with a defined career track. Paula: how do you define and differentiate between the competencies and the PM vs. Sr PM levels i.e. intermediate v expert Paula: nevermind , you just answered. Thx Katie Ranes - ASU: Question: Do you have an internal training/development effort in place? Do you rely on internal or vendor training? Alan @: Do you have PMP's in the org? Do you require it for any of the job positions? andy clark: We have one PMP; it is a nice to have for senior PM positions here at Syracuse Alison Winslow @ Texas A&M: Katie, yes we have an extensive training program. We have a project management certificate which includes five courses. Our curriculum is a combination of homegrown and vendor licensed. We have course descriptions on our website at http://pmo.tamu.edu/Professional_Development/Project_Management_Training/index.php. E-mail us at pmo@tamu.edu if you would like more information or to further discuss. Dan @ Marquette Univ: We expect all of our PMs to gain their PMP. Currently 5 of the 7 have their PMP. Paula: can you articulate the biggest value added with the PMP certification? Les@UManitoba: Has any of the spearkers or anyone else on the call looked at using or already have incorporated the PMI Competency Development Framework in defining their job position definitions? Paula: Which would provide greater flexibility, the PMP certification or the Masters in PM? Alison Winslow @ Texas A&M: We also offer a conference that we hold annually here at Texas A&M. www.pmo.tamu.edu/exchange. This conference provides a space for collaboration and learning best practices from those across industry and the project management field. Dan @ Marquette Univ: PMP demonstrates a desire as a career path plus it requires pdus and therefore stimulates continuous training. Tina @ Okstate: I am teaching a Masters Level Project Management course at Okstate Spring 2013. I am going to work on including some items on starting a career path in project mgmt Alison Winslow @ Texas A&M: @Tina can I contact you regarding your course? do you have an e-mail that I could follow up with you on that? Grace Denman: UMUC offers a Graduate certificate as well. Grace Denman: UMUC is just starting to use "Agile". We have hired Agile pors to help us. andy clark: Randall - not a requirement per se though many have done it internal to the university. sometimes in teaching the dept training and sometimes to undergrad PM courses Dan @ Marquette Univ: You can get pdu credits for presenting on PM topics Dan @ Marquette Univ: I have presented to ungrad classes and MBA courses as well as conferences.
