May 30th, 2012
4:45 PM - 5:30 PM
Grand Ballroom Salons C/DEastern Time
The "Experience IT" format offers a hands-on, highly interactive introduction to newer tools and technologies so you can explore their potential impact in the workplace and classroom and on your professional development. Please bring your laptop or other session-specific technology (such as smartphone or tablet) to the session so you can engage with the presenter. Seating will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
This session is designed to offer a hands-on introduction to a set of freely available web-based tools that expand on the concept of polling. We will explore some of the pedagogies that use these web-based programs to increase student learning. You'll experience hands-on polling using the freely available programs Poll Everywhere (http://www.polleverywhere.com/), Google Moderator (https://www.google.com/moderator/), Ubiquitous Presenter (http://up.ucsd.edu/about/WhatIsUP.html), and IPAL (http://www.compadre.org/ipal/webdocs/About.cfm). Examples, discussion, and the evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of each program will help you consider how the tools and related practices can be used to promote interaction, engagement, and learning.
