ABSTRACT
The University of Delaware Library has developed an information system called "Current Contents/TOC" (TOC = Table-of-Contents) that provides a Web interface for browsing the Current Contents database. As the weekly database updates are received, the data is formatted into HTML and the table-of-contents pages for individual journals are created on the Library's Web server. A rolling four week file is maintained on this machine. Users can browse in one of seven broad areas, e.g., "Engineering, Computing & Technology," or browse in one of over 200 subject categories, e.g., "Engineering, Biomedical." A search mechanism is also provided to locate individual journal titles from the over 7,000 journals that are included in Current Contents.
Users can take advantage of standard Web browser features to view the table-of-contents pages of specific journals and where they are available, read the abstracts of individual articles as well as view the reprint address information. Future enhancements to the system will include the capability to order individual articles online and a Web interface to search the entire Current Contents database.
