The Transformation of Digital Content in Higher Education

Abstract

Presentation at the 2010 ECAR Symposium, December 7, 2010, in Carlsbad, California. E-reading and digital content growth are exploding in all facets of book publishing, including the higher education market. The digital reading universe is a rapidly changing maelstrom of formats, devices, digital rights management (DRM), new distribution models, and evolving technologies. This vortex is further fueled by a host of players including publishers, distributors, content aggregators, retailers, and solution providers, which can be challenging for institutions to navigate. This session will provide an overview of the digital textbook landscape as it currently exists and a glimpse into the emerging trends that will shape higher education digital content in the near future.
