David Hutches

Biography

David Hutches is an Enterprise Architect in UC San Diego's central information technology services unit, In this capacity, he provides broad expertise in the design, planning, and deployment of current and future state technical solutions campus-wide. He is also deeply involved in the evolution of the forward looking organizational architecture required to provision local and cloud-based technical services to a diverse community of students, researchers, educators, and administrators in an agile and flexible fashion. A specific area of responsibility is Enterprise Data Architecture, which includes all aspects of the collection, dissemination, and analysis of core campus information in order to create a culture of data-driven decision making, and improve student success and engagement. A particular interest is the use of rich campus data sets to drive discovery via machine learning and other analytical techniques. David participates on a variety of committees, working groups, task forces, and advisory bodies at the campus and UC System levels, and serves as a liaison between the University's business and academic communities. David received a B.S. from Loyola University, New Orleans, with a double major in Computer Science and Philosophy, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego.
