Fran Smith
Biography
Frances (Fran) G. Smith is a 2011-12 post-doctoral UDL Fellow in residence at Boston College Lynch School of Education and CAST. Previously she was the Coordinator of Technology and Distance Learning for the Virginia Department of Education's Training & Technical Assistance Center (TTAC) at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She has had a significant role in IT strategic planning/coordination, web development, instructional and assistive technology for TTAC. Fran directed and coordinated the infusion of cutting edge technology for faculty and staff at T/TAC and served on several university IT committees. She continues to be affiliated with the VCU Learning Technology Research Group exploring the role of technology in teaching and learning at VCU. She has a background as a vocational evaluation practitioner, an assistive technology provider, and a staff instructional technology development specialist. Fran completed her dissertation in the higher education administration at The George Washington University where her research focused on "Perceptions of universal design for learning in college classrooms". Dr. Smith's research focuses on universal design for learning in higher education, transition and in college classrooms.EDUCAUSE Presentations
