Perniciaro was hired as communications specialist for the Division of Information Technology at Stony Brook University in April 2007, and was promoted to Manager of IT Communications & Web Strategy in 2011. She oversees Stony Brook's IT communications, marketing and Web strategy efforts and assists with the division's change management activities by keeping the campus community informed of new initiatives and service offerings. She serves as chief editor/writer of Stony Brook's IT website - - and coordinates all other communications projects, including publications, feature stories, newsletters, social media strategy, video production, SCALA screen messaging, and campus mailings. In her role, Perniciaro supervises one full-time Web developer and four student employees.

Prior to Stony Brook, Perniciaro worked 11 years in college athletics, serving as assistant director of athletic communications at Colgate University (three years), Northwestern University (one year), and Syracuse University (seven years). In 2006, she coordinated and managed the media credential process for the ING New York City Marathon.

Perniciaro earned a bachelor of science degree in corporate communication from Ithaca College in 1995 and a master of arts degree in liberal studies from Stony Brook University in 2010.
