Sara Chambers

Biography

Sara Chambers is IU's chief data officer. In this role, she oversees IU's University Information Policy Office including information policy, incident response, and data administration. She serves as the chair of the University Data Management Council; coordinates the data stewards at-large; co-chairs the Information Security and Privacy Risk Council; is a member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Data Governance group, the BTAA Security Working Group, the HE-CPO Group; and serves on IU's Policy Advisory Council and University Assurance Council. Chambers has more than 30 years of experience in higher education. Prior to taking on the role of chief data officer, Chambers served as chief privacy officer.  Prior to her CPO role, Sara served as the Director of Enterprise Software between 2005 and 2013 when she moved into the Director of Lifetime Engagement and Web Technical Services role. Sara has 30 years of experience in higher education where she has been responsible for developing, managing and directing academic systems such as IU's Oracle/PeopleSoft Student Information System, IU's implementation of the Sakai Learning Management system, IU's Library systems and Student Scholarships & Activities systems. Additionally, she has also directed HR systems develop efforts for IU's Oracle/PeopleSoft Human Resource Management System, TimeKeeping, HR Electronic Document system and the Faculty Annual Reporting system. As part of the Lifetime Engagement initiative, she was responsible for directing the implementation of a Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) solution, as well as, the Enterprise Web Technical Services activities. Sara has a working knowledge of a wide set of constituent data ranging from student and employee records to information about parents, alumni and donors. Her previous responsibilities required compliance with information technology policies, as well as, related Student, Employee and HIPAA policies as they related to technical environments and systems.
