Methodology and Acknowledgments
Methodology
The June QuickPoll was conducted on June 15–16, 2020, consisted of 18 questions, and had 127 responses. Poll invitations were sent to participants in EDUCAUSE community groups focused on IT leadership and instructional technology. Most respondents (119) represented US institutions. Respondents from Algeria, Canada, Portugal, and the United Kingdom also participated.
The August QuickPoll poll was conducted on August 5, 2020, consisted of 13 questions, and had 228 responses. Poll invitations were sent to participants in EDUCAUSE community groups focused on IT leadership and instructional technology. Most respondents (212) represented US institutions. Respondents from Mexico, Canada, South America, and Europe also participated. Institutions of an appropriately diverse and well-balanced range of sizes and Carnegie Classifications participated in both QuickPoll surveys.
Interviews for the case studies were conducted from July 22 to August 6, 2020. Interviews of 30 to 60 minutes were conducted with IT decision makers, an instructional designer, and faculty members from across three institutions: Auburn University, Ohio University, and Harvard Business School Online.

The authors would also like to thank all of the technology leaders and professionals who responded to the QuickPoll surveys, with extra thanks to the three case study institutions—Auburn University, Ohio University, and Harvard Business School Online—and the contacts at each who spent their very valuable time providing insights based on their hard work and experience. We would also like to thank the EDUCAUSE staff members—Jim Burnett, Carolyn Coleman, Kate Roesch, Betsy Reinitz, and Jamie Reeves—who all played an important role in the creation and publication of this research project. Gregory Dobbin and the publication team provided copy edits and other editorial suggestions.
