2024 EDUCAUSE AI Landscape Study

Recommendations and Resources

Based on the insights generated by these data, here are some actions you can take:

  • Collect local data. Use this survey instrument (or design your own), and conduct focus groups or listening sessions to learn about the AI-related needs at your own institution.
  • Assemble a collaborative group of stakeholders at your institution to engage in AI-related strategy. Include faculty and staff from a wide range of functional units and academic disciplines.
  • Because students' needs and experiences are central to AI-related strategy and policy, be sure to include student voices in local research and working groups.
  • Reach out to other institutions for thought leadership and resource sharing. The EDUCAUSE AI Community Group is a great place to find other colleagues engaged in AI-related work.
  • When considering AI-related policy, take a careful inventory of existing policies (e.g., data governance, cybersecurity and data privacy, academic integrity) to determine whether you need to create new policies or can rely on existing ones. Communicate with stakeholders so they know how existing policies apply to new AI-related issues.
  • Whenever possible, formalize AI-related job duties and create new roles as needed.
  • Share your insights with the broader community through outlets such as EDUCAUSE Review.
