9 insightful videos about using SMART Boards in the Classroom

Created by Kelly Walsh (The College of Westchester) on November 9, 2009

The 2nd post in a series focused on learning about Interactive Whiteboards in the Classroom.

Last week we kicked off this series by learning the basics about what an interactive whiteboard is, and researched which brands are the most popular today. After discovering that the SMART Board brand from Smart Technologies controls more of the marketplace than all of the other brands combined, we then started looking into the different types of SMART Boards and their features and functionality.

Entertainent On Demand is in Command

Created by Gregory H. Smith (George Fox University) on November 8, 2009

I just wrote the Post "Entertainent On Demand is in Command" for my blog http://ctoatgfu.blogspot.com. It focuses on our disappearing bandwidth being eaten up by our students for Internet On Demand Entertainment. The issue for many of us in Higher Ed is how much is enough. Again I think we are facing student Internet demand that we cannot satisfy. So what are our options? We will try to regulate usage with network segmentation and additional filtering options. But what about adding more bandwidth. For some that may not be a problem, but for us, even with aggressive Internet bandwidth pricing, I can't afford a whole lot more. We have talked about charging the students in some fashion. Another idea that I have been discussing with my ISP is bandwidth provisioning based on time of day.

Welcome to the Evolving Technologies Committee blog!

Created by Molly Tamarkin (Duke University) on November 4, 2009

Greetings!

On behalf of the Evolving Technologies Committee (ETCOM), welcome to our blog! Actually, this isn't our blog: it's everyone's blog, and we hope you'll participate too.

Our committee's charge is to identify developing technologies and to evaluate their impact on higher education. Typically, our work is shared through presentations, white papers, and articles. This year, we'd like broader input and dialogue and so are turning to EDUCAUSE's blog technology to assist us.

In this blog, we'll share our ideas, readings, concerns, and focus areas regarding evolving technologies. To join the conversation, all you need to do is to log into EDUCAUSE, click on "create content" and select blog entry. Enter your post, and then tag your entry as either "ETCOM" or "Evolving Technologies" (no quotes). Your entry will then aggregate to our Committee blog.

Here's to hearing more,

Molly
