Information Architecture--Bringing the University's Information Inventory Under Control

Abstract

The University of Arizona recognizes data as an asset. This paper covers the University's early efforts to organize institutional data and the subsequent events that led to the present work of developing an information architecture. It explores what an information architecture is (a comprehensive view of the business of the enterprise and the data required for its operation), how it can benefit the institution, the process used to develop an IA, and plans and strategies for completing the IA.
