Biography

Amira Aaron has over 35 years experience as an information professional in library automation and management. She has held management positions at the University of California, Los Angeles; the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, as well as at major information vendors. At UCLA, Aaron was on the development team of one of the first in-house integrated library management systems (ILS). While at Readmore/Blackwell, she was one of the creators of the Backserv/Backmed library exchange lists still in use today.

Aaron is very active in the American Library Association, where she previously served on the Board of the Library Information Technology Association and currently is vice-chair/chair-elect of the ALCTS E-Resources group. She has spoken widely on topics including serials automation, e-resource management and access, open-URL's and link resolvers, and library management.

At Brandeis, Aaron is on the leadership team of the Library and Technology Services department, a merged library/IT organization. Her areas of responsibility include information resources, collection development, information access, technical services, archives and special collections. She recently organized a Nercomp SIG on "Beyond Information Discovery".

Aaron holds a BA from Boston University in French Literature and a Master's in Library Science (MLS) from UCLA.
