Biography
Mark Bullen is the Dean of the Learning & Teaching Centre at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Burnaby, Canada. He is responsible for the administration of instructional design, curriculum development and instructor professional development at the Institute and for the applied research activity of the Learning & Teaching Centre.
Before joining BCIT in 2005 Mark spent 23 years at the University of British Columbia (UBC), most recently as Director of the Centre for Managing and Planning E-Learning (MAPLE) and Acting Director of the department of Distance Education & Technology.
He is one of the authors and instructors in the online Master in Educational Technology (MET) which is a collaborative program between UBC and the Virtual University of the Monterrey Technical Institute (Mexico).
He is also an adjunct Professor with Athabasca University where he teaches courses in the Master's Degree in Distance Education.
He has taught workshops on developing and delivering e-learning and the planning and management of e-learning in Mexico, Malaysia, Taiwan, Croatia and Canada and he has been a consultant on distance education projects in Mongolia, Bhutan and Indonesia.
He has been involved in distance education since 1982 when he began as a producer of educational television programs for the University of British Columbia. Before that he worked as a television journalist for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
He has a Ph.D. in Adult Education (1997), a Master's degree in Educational Psychology (1989) and a B.Ed. (1982) from the University of British Columbia. His research interest is in the area of planning and management of e-learning in higher education, instructional design and computer-mediated communication.
